Let's Welcome Chief Justice Richard Darby,

A little about him:

Richard Darby was born in 1958 and raised in Duke, Oklahoma. He attended Duke High School and was a member of the Duke Tigers basketball and baseball teams. After graduation, Darby enrolled at Western Oklahoma State College. He recalls fondly the instructors at Western who began to shape his educational journey and credits Western for the opportunities that it offers to students in southwest Oklahoma. Darby went on to continue his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he received a B.A. in political science. In 1984, Darby received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma and spent time practicing law in Altus before beginning his judicial career. Appointed by Governor Mary Fallin in April of 2018, to serve as Justice for the Oklahoma Supreme Court, Justice Darby serves District Nine, which is located in southwest Oklahoma. Justice Darby previously spent a total of twenty-three years as a district judge for the Third Judicial District, which includes five of Altus’ surrounding counties. First as Special Judge for four years, then Associate District Judge for four years, Darby has now proudly served the Oklahoma judicial branch for over thirty years. Darby is married to Dr. Dana Darby, Head of School at Altus Christian Academy. They have two sons Ben and Jonathan. Darby is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where he has taught Sunday school for more than twenty years. He is a prior President of the Altus Rotary Club, Rotarian of the Year, and Oklahoma Court Reporters Association Judge of the Year. The WOSC Alumni Hall of Fame, established in 1996, recognizes and honors Altus Junior College and Western Oklahoma State College alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their field, in their community, and at WOSC. This is the 25th year the Alumni Association has bestowed this honor.

Matt Murphy serves as the District Rotary Foundation Chair for District 5750.  He's a founding member and past president of the OKC Midtown Rotary Club and the founder and president of the OKC Midtown Rotary Foundation. Heath Holt Hayes resides in Oklahoma City and serves as the Chief Communications Officer for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Heath’s responsibilities are focused on leading a cross-functional team engaged with strategic initiatives that include policy implementation, program development, and service delivery, as well as community organizing, governmental affairs, and public relations. Heath is a nationally recognized leader helping others embrace lived experience with mental health and has successfully integrated recovery-oriented, holistic, and person-driven continuums of care at the local, state, and national levels.

In addition, Heath is a member of the American Psychiatric Association’s Policy Advisory Board, Co-Chairs the National Association State Mental Health Program Directors’ Division of Recovery Support Services, and is alumni of the National Council for Behavioral Health’s Addressing Health Disparities Leadership program. Heath received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma and several graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma in Human Relations, Administrative Leadership, and a Women’s and Gender Studies.

What is 988?

988 is a direct, three-digit line to trained behavioral health professionals that can open the door for all Oklahomans to seek the help they need, while sending the message that healing, hope and help are happening every day. The Federal Communications Commission adopted rules to establish 988 and turns it on nationally July 1, 2022. 988 is the first step to a multi-level crisis response.

Let's Welcome State Auditor Cindy Byrd:

Cindy Byrd, CPA, is Oklahoma’s 13th State Auditor & Inspector, the first woman elected to this statewide-elected office, and she is the only candidate to top the 800,000-vote milestone in an election for state office in Oklahoma History.

Byrd served as Deputy State Auditor & Inspector for Local Government Services from January 2013 before assuming her new role on January 14, 2019. She also previously served as Director of the County Audit Division.

The State Auditor & Inspector’s primary function is to safeguard public assets. Cindy is at the forefront of this mission by striving to identify wasteful spending, assisting elected officials to fully understand their fiduciary responsibility to preserve the public trust, effectively administer government auditing standards to be utilized as tools to create more responsive government at every level, and to improve the efficient delivery of government services.

Cindy and her husband Steve live in Coalgate located in Coal County, Oklahoma.

ABOUT OUR DISTRICT

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is a multi-cultural district serving approximately 45,000 students. Our students are educated throughout 33 neighborhood elementary schools, 13 middle schools, 9 high schools, 3 alternative schools and 9 charter schools located within 135.5 square miles in the center of Oklahoma.  

We employ just over 4,600 administrators, teachers, and support personnel who serve a student population which is comprised of 2% Asian, 3% Native American, 14% Caucasian, 22% African American, and 54% Hispanic individuals.

Additionally, 18,000 of our students are bilingual and 13,000 are English Language Learners. Our students and their families represent many different languages; top two being English with 59% and Spanish with 39%. 

OKCPS offers special education programs across the district to serve the 12% of our population with disabilities or special needs.

OKCPS is a CEP district which means every student eats free breakfast and lunch every day. We serve approximately 45,000 meals daily (including breakfast and lunch).

We transport an average of 12,000 students daily to and from school.

Outreach-Rebuilding our cummunities one family at a time; through helping those that cannot help themselves with a hand up. "Touching our Community?"

Vision-Utilizing the communit at hand to extend services or assistance beyond the current or usual limits. "Rebuilding Together!" As each one has received a speacial gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10 "Sharing our Gifts!" 

Open Vessels helps those in need who have homes or defects that they are not able to care for or afford to repair themselves or physically not able to do the work. He will share how their non profit is helping many in need.

Kara holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Colorado State University and is currently obtaining her MBA, emphasizing non-profit administration. Kara has over 15 years of experience in administrative management and the performing arts industries in performance and direction. Kara's professional expertise includes former owner and Creative Director of Forever After Parties and production management for NETworks Presentations LLC. In addition, Kara has served in various non-profit administrative roles, including the Oklahoma Goodwill and St. Mary's Episcopal School. Pollard audience members will recognize Chapman for notable roles such as Always...Patsy ClineDisaster! the Musical, It's a Wonderful Life: a Live Radio Play. Directing credits include The Great American Trailer Park Musical. Kara fulfills a new role within the organization as Executive Director. 
 
The Pollard: 
Founded in 1987, the Pollard Theatre Company is a non-equity professional resident theatrical production organization. Patrons, critics, and theatre artists recognize Pollard as a leading theatrical producer in central Oklahoma. The Pollard MainStage series produces five major theatrical productions and five artistic programs during the Pollard Performance Series. In total, the Pollard presents ten variations of live performance in its year-round season, demonstrating diversity, versatility, and excellence in artistic standards.

Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership

Let's Welcome Justin O'Neal the District Manager for Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership.

DOKC is a not for profit organization that was created in 2000 to Market and Manage the Business Improvement District. They serve as advocates, coordinators, facilitators and communicators for downtown revitalization.  They also work closely with parnters in both the public and private sector to ensure the greater downtown area continues to fourish.

Joe's Addiction-Coffee House Community Outreach/Author

Jamie West Zumwalt is an author and lead pastor of Joe’s Addiction, a coffee shop community in a “red light” district of Oklahoma City, where marginalized people living in poverty, addiction, mental illness, and homelessness have found a place of belonging.

Jamie will share a little about her book but more about creating a Coffee Shop to do outreach service to her community in need.

Mr. Beffort’s leadership has driven Robinson Park to successfully manage over 12 million square feet, worth in excess of $2 billion, and the firm has grown to cover eight markets, including Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rogers, Arkansas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Columbus, Ohio; and McKinney, Texas.

Mr. Beffort actively supports the advancement of young entrepreneurs through various avenues, including direct involvement in the development of an entrepreneurial business program at Washburn University and various organizations throughout Oklahoma City.

Let's welcome Ashley Terry, Ashley Terry serves as the Vice President of Development for Wheeler District. As Vice President, she oversees the strategic operations of development across the district

Wheeler District is a 150- acre urban development situated on the south bank of the Oklahoma River. The unique site includes the former Downtown Airpark, which operated from the 1940s until 2005. Wheeler District is directly adjacent to Downtown Oklahoma City, with direct auto access to I-40 and direct pedestrian and bike access to the Oklahoma River Trail network. The site boasts spectacular views of the skyline and is envisioned as new urban village, growing over time that takes advantage of the long-range planning and history of Oklahoma City. The future urban neighborhood is to be a walkable, bikeable neighborhood with a range of of for-sale and for-rent housing options.

We will learn more about the new community and its benefits and growth to our City.

First Non Binary State Legislature and First Muslim Lawmaker in Oklahoma- Please welcome State House Rep: Mauree Turner is a born and raised American-Muslim and Oklahoma community organizer. Mauree's life's work is geared towards fighting for and maintaining the civil rights and liberties for all who enter America. They are also the current Representative for the state of Oklahoma's House District 88.

Before becoming the first Muslim Legislator for Oklahoma and the first openly non-binary person to be elected to a state wide office in the US, Mauree had been doing community organizing around justice re-imaginment and rebuilding, religious freedom, LGBTQ2S+ rights, and race relations with the ACLU of OK, CAIR-OK, NAACP, Freedom Oklahoma and a number of grassroots organizations.

Representative Turner will share the experiences to reach this achievement.
