Please welcome Mindy Direen, Founding & Regional Director of ThrivePoint Academy of Oklahoma.

ThrivePoint Academy of Oklahoma is a tuition-free, statewide virtual public charter school serving students in grades 6–12 who need a different path to graduation. We specialize in supporting students who may be under-credited, over-age, at risk of dropping out, or simply have not found success in a traditional school setting. Our model combines flexible, mastery-based learning with individualized support from Success Coaches and opportunities for students to prepare for their “Next Big Step,” whether that is college, career training, certification, or the workforce.

This work is also very personal to Mindy. She was once a teenage mother and high school dropout who ultimately returned to complete her education and eventually built a career in education and educational leadership. That experience has shaped her belief that a student’s circumstances at one point in life should never determine what they are capable of becoming.

During her talk, she'll share more about ThrivePoint’s mission, the students we are working to reach across Oklahoma, and why alternative pathways to education are so important for students and communities. She'll also discuss how community organizations, employers, colleges, career-techs, and other partners can play a meaningful role in helping students move from simply earning a diploma to building a successful future.
