Better Outcomes for Oklahoma's Kids (B.O.O.K) Policy Initiative with Oklahoma Appleseed

Erika Wright is the Oklahoma Education Justice Organizer for Advance Oklahoma’s
Kids, a project of the Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law & Justice. In this role, she
partners with state and national organizations to shape strong public education policy
and mobilize local communities in support of Oklahoma’s schools.

She is also the founder and director of the Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition, a
grassroots advocacy group with 18,000 members representing all 77 counties. Deeply
committed to her local education community, Erika has served as a member of the
Noble Public Schools Board of Education, past president of the Noble Public Schools
Foundation. She is a current executive board trustee for the Oklahoma Foundation for
Excellence, and is a proud graduate of Leadership Oklahoma’s Class 37.

Bringing a long history of empowering education communities around the world as the
co-founder and VP of the non-profit Somebody’s Mama, her global work has resulted in
improving education,healthcare,and economic health to thousands of girls and women
in developing nations around the world by building schools in Togo, Nepal, and
Cambodia; funding literacy and pre-natal projects in Kenya, Haiti, Turkey, and Uganda;
creating a rural maternity ward in Sierra Leone; helping women exit sex trafficking in
India and Mozambique; and funding business loan start ups for women in Mali, Iraq,
Syria, and South Sudan.

Erika is the mother of two children attending Noble Public Schools and an adult
daughter living and working in Sydney, Australia. She and her husband, Matt, live in
rural Cleveland County with their children, two cats, three dogs, and 45 chickens
